After the show I had a book for him to sign and he talked with me a few minutes. A great memory. I have recordings of hours of Rudy Vallee recordings that I got from a place in Redmond Washington on tape. I have some of his orginal 78s. His Connecut Yankees was a really nice band and Rudy Vallee has a very pleasant voice. Also have the movie Vagabond Lover from 1929 with the recordings that goes with it. Many celebraties from that era of time I have alot of admiration for. The current crop of stars are very shallow and I could care less for.

Wrote... I never met Mr. Vallee but I did play tennis for a time at his home on Pyramid Place up in the Hollywood Hills. The only one of his family I ever met was his German Police Dog. The pooch would field the tennis balls for us. The tennis court, as I remember it sat atop a structure which housed Mr. Vallee's momentos which ranged from greeting and thank you cards to other treasures which I can't recall at the moment. Wrote... My father, Al DeCrescenzi, played keyboard, trumpet and other instruments with Rudy Vallee Coast Guard Band throughout WWII. Famous harpist Robert Maxwell known for his "Fantasy for Harp" was also in the band. Al is probably the only surviving member today at 99 years old. I have the official Coast Guard Band Album of many 78 discs, pictures, and other memorobilia of this era. Al came from the big dance band era of the 20's - 40's, most notably Clyde Lucas Orchestra just before joining the Coast Guard Band. He was personal friends with Rudy and I remember days spent at his house in the Hollywood Hills, and with his son also. Contact me if interested in persuing this further. Thanks, Roland D.

Wrote... A wonderful voice, a great band- a handsome talented and exceptional gentleman from a time when they knew what the word meant. Gone but never forgotten. I love his music- in fact, most of the music of that era. Songs with witty, sensitive, sophisticated even touching lyrics- songs you could hum and whistle (does anybody whistle anymore? Do kids today even know how?) With cd's and computers now so much of the music from the twenties, thirties and forties is available. I would like to call your attention to a practice i see becoming more and more previlent especially in the area of dance band recordings from the 20's and 30's and that is the use of CDR'S replacing the professionaly recorded CD. The thing that really annoys the hell out of me is that they make these CD'S for a little more then a buck along with a cheap Xerox copie of the liner notes and then charge the same price as a conventional cd!! i don't mind paying 15,16 or even 20 dollars for a CD if it's professionally done. This is like buying a conterfiet Rolex watch for full price!!! I spoke to Ren Brown at worlds records a few times about this and he puts it off by saying he's looking into it. It's simple stop selling them or say it's a CDR in your catalog and reduce the price in half! not all CDR'S play on every player and what if they stop playing a month or a year from now will Ren replace them?Tell Ren Brown at www.worldsrecords.com you are boycotting the following labels until something is done TOM, MAGIC, SUNBEAM ( the new Benny Goodman's) Flare Halcylon, and Joyce ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wrote... When I was a child - 3- 4 years of age - I went to sleep with my mother playing Rudy Vallee's Maine Stien Song. I subsequently wore out three copies of the record. I once ran away from home with two pair of training panties and a copy of the record. I was three. I walked to the end of my parents property - about 150 yards and pouted. The reason I left was because my family wouldn't play the record . I am 72 years old and have been looking for a copy of the Maine Stien Song for many years. My friend found your site. My wish is to have the song played at my memorial - at the end - and then every one to go out and have a great and wonderful party. I will always remember Momma playing the record and going to sleep. I am too youbg to remember Rudy vallee from the l920s, but I remember when Winchester Cathedral became a hit in the l960s Rudy Vallee recorded it complete with megaphone. I think the megaphone was his trademark. I also enjoy very much the movie SOME LIKE IT HOT directed by Billy Wilder and starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, in which reference is made several times in the dialogue to the "latest Rudy Vallee records". Wrote... My parents took me to 'How to Succeed..' in 1973 at the Curran in S.F. After the show they would always go to a deli across the street. Rudy came in and sat toward the front of the place with about 5 other people. My folks told me to go over and say hello. I did and asked Rudy for an autograph and out of his coat pocket he pulled a small photo and signed it to me Sincerely, Rudy Vallee. This is my most cherished possession, along with my, now extensive, Rudy music collection. When I listen to his music, I look to the sky and Thank him for bringing so much joy to this world. His laughing on 'Tavern in the Town' always lifts my spirits when I am down. I have so much respect for someone who would take the time to make a young boys night so special. Inside was a postcard of Rudy and his band ,Yale Collegians. Postmark was Feb 17, 1928 NY. He tells his friend Sid to listen on W.A.B.C. on Wed,Sat, & Sun from 11 to 12. Front shows Management as Bert Lown at 1658 Broadway. Also found a professional photo in book. Really enjoyed this site

Wrote... As I listen to a self-compiled Rudy Vallee CD and peruse this great site, I'm reminded of when we bought Rudy and Eleanor's one of a kind, oval coffee table, made for them by a fan. What a conversation piece, with what looks like colored stone on the surface, with some type of gold foil underneath that makes it almost sparkle. We acquired it at the Vallee estate sale at their fabulous pink home off Mulholland in the Hwood hills some years back. I remember finding out about the sale a couple of weeks after it started, and my wife and i have unforgettable memories of how gracious Mrs. Vallee was to let all these strangers go through her home after Mr. Vallee's passing. We were just astounded at the WONDERFUL home, so steeped in Hollywood history it made one's head spin. She was very kind to us, and i swear i felt her pain as her personal momentoes marched down the winding driveway, and out the large columned gates of the luxurious, but warm residence. Inside, she'd showed us the circular stairway, with the hidden entrance to an outside sun deck, and we ooh'd and ah'd at the fabulous lower building, with a home theatre, stage area for plays and performances, and the bar area behind it where i believe Rudy and she would have intimate get-togethers. I'm sure everyone's heard of the tennis court that served (no pun intended) as the lower building's roof. As a 30s and 40s enthusiast, i was in absolute heaven, but somehow felt i was trespassing on hallowed ground, as the warmth and security of the estate surrounded us. We purchased the table, which Mrs. Vallee told us was made for Rudy some years earlier by a fan, and it has a very loving home now in OUR living room, and i don't think I'd take a thousand dollars for it. I also remember the horrible anger I felt when i heard Arsenio Hall bought the estate and leveled it. Mr. Hall, should you read this, you are a brainless and insensitive man! No wonder your career is on the skids. I think it's called KARMA. I vaguely remember Rudy giving a tour of the magnificent home on LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS (I think), and have searched for a vhs copy of this show for years, to no avail. I enjoyed Mrs. Vallee's book and purchased an autographed copy from her at a collector's show, where she once again was gracious and attractive. This is getting long, but if anyone out there should own a vhs copy of that LIFESTYLES show, PLEASE contact me. I'm currently working on a documentary on bandleader Kay Kyser, and may be contacted through the email address given here, or through the Kyser site at www.kaykyser.net (NOT .com) Best to all Vallee fans, and we're not forgetting the wonderful music that is his legacy forever.
